Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter

Karin Slaughter is my new favorite author! Blindsighted is the first in the Grant County series that features small town pediatrician/county coroner Sara Linton and contains just the right amount of graphic violence for me.

While stepping into the restroom at a town diner, Sara happens upon a professor from the local college who is bleeding out, and Sara is moments too late to save her. Clearly a case of rape and murder, police chief and Sara's ex-husband, Jeffrey Tolliver, is called to the scene. But this case hits home for Lena, a cop who happens to be Sybil's identical twin sister. The three are left wondering what kind of monster who could prey on someone who is blind and are determined to bring about justice.

While still hunting the killer in Sybil's case, Tolliver and crew are called in to investigate the suspicious disappearance of a college student whose controlling boyfriend was the last one to see her alive. Does this have any connection to Sybil's murder? For Sara, these cases bring back the disturbing memories of when she was raped and left for dead. Could it be that her assailant has come back to torment her?

Some of the descriptions of the crime scenes as well as Sara's findings as a medical examiner are pretty gruesome, so this isn't for the faint of heart. However, if you like a page-turning plot in which the suspect is the last person you would expect, then this is the book/series for you!
