The Melody Lingers On by Mary Higgins Clark

Lane Harmon is an interior decorator. She works for Glady, who is tough but gets all of the big clients. Their newest clients are the Bennetts. Parker Bennett, the head of the family, is presumed dead. He also scammed a lot of people out of billions of dollars. Now his widow has to move out of her home in New York and Glady agrees to decorate her new home pro-bono.

As Lane works on the project she becomes involved with Eric Bennett. She has given him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't involved or knew what his father was doing. But she is the only one. FBI, disgruntled clients, and even Glady think he is guilty and have him under surveillance. But there is more to this story then they know and it might just put Lane in danger.

I don't know why I keep reading her books. There are always a million characters and the stories lately have just been okay. I like her older stories way better, like Loves Music, Loves to Dance.
